by Melanie Writer 19 May '25

19 May '25
Dear USD, I hope this message finds you well! My name is Jacob Rocha, and I serve as a Program Ambassador at Black Tech Link, a California-based nonprofit dedicated to advancing the economic development of Black communities through workforce solutions, technical training, and networking opportunities. I’m reaching out to share an exciting opportunity for your students. In Summer 2025, we will be launching the BIPOC Coastal Research Program (BCRP) <https://blacktechlink.org/home/new-bipoc-program-page/>—a hands-on research mentorship initiative designed for college students pursuing careers in marine biology, environmental science, geology, and oceanography. This program is tailored specifically to support BIPOC students as they explore and deepen their knowledge in these fields. Over the course of two months, students will engage in weekly interactive research activities co-developed with UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography. These activities are designed to introduce field-specific tools and technologies, and connect students with professionals and researchers in their area of study. Program Highlights Include: - FREE Open Water PADI Certification - Exposure to new environmental field technologies - Networking with researchers and industry experts We are currently recruiting 10–15 students from local 2-year and 4-year institutions for our first cohort. I would like to request if you could share this opportunity with students at USD. This is a valuable stepping stone for those interested in life and environmental science careers. Please find attached the program flyer and a short shareable blurb below. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the program, feel free to reach out directly or schedule a time to chat using the Calendly link below. Your feedback and support mean a great deal to us. https://calendly.com/blacktechlink Thank you, and I look forward to connecting with you soon. Warm regards, Jacob Rocha Program Manager | Black Tech Link ------------------------------ Shareable Blurb: Black Tech Link is launching the BIPOC Coastal Research Program (BCRP) for Summer 2025! by Melanie Writer 13 May '25

13 May '25
Hello from the Department of Theatre! We're hoping to reach out to students outside of our department and get more people involved in theatre! If you're thinking about auditioning next semester, or even curious about auditioning, *please fill out this form to let us know <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfDIWDTpcf5V5DDcWn1daXAnziqaZ7La-H…>!* Our department is very open to students of different backgrounds, majors, interests, etc. and we'd love to have more people enjoying live theatre! *If you have any questions, please let us know at the contact info below!* Auditions for fall productions will likely be during the first full week of classes, to accommodate the Enrollment Deadline of September 12. Please note, since this is quite the time commitment, students are required to register for the course, which is 3 credits -- there will be time for us to register you in the fall, if you are cast! Thanks, all! We hope to hear from you!
