Join us in our exploration of how understanding the social, cultural, and historical contexts of STEM–through an emerging field called Science, Technology, & Society (often referred to as STS)–can pave the way to restoring trust and forging a more collaborative future. About the speaker: Lochlann <https://anthropology.stanford.edu/people/lochlann-jain> Jain, PhD <https://anthropology.stanford.edu/people/lochlann-jain> is an award-winning author and Professor of Anthropology at Stanford University, Visiting Chair of Global Health and Social Medicine at King’s College London, and a Research Affiliate at VIAD, University of Johannesburg. His work aims to unsettle some of the deeply held assumptions about objectivity that underlie the history of medical research. This two-day event will take place on April 8 and April 10 during Torero Hours in the Learning Commons Town Square as part of USD’s Research Month. Students will present their projects in a short presentation with six slides that automatically advance after 20 seconds (known as Pecha-Kucha-style presentations). The format allows students to present their project to a broad audience and for the audience to experience the breadth of research and creative works taking place across the many disciplines of our campus. Please share AWISSD 2025 Scholarship Announcement Due next Friday, March 28th! Hello, We are contacting you about the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) San Diego Scholarship Program which could be of interest to students at your institution. The AWIS-SD Scholarship encourages and rewards outstanding students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields at San Diego colleges and universities. The program annually supports community college, undergraduate, and graduate students in San Diego County pursuing degrees in STEM fields where women are underrepresented. This year's scholarship will support students in the fields of study including biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, mathematics, and experimental psychology. Each AWISSD Scholar will receive a $1000 Scholarship Award. All the application materials must be submitted by Friday, March 28, 2025.
