February Web Tip: Component Settings

As more sites are transitioned into the new USD 2.0 template, we wanted to provide more detail on the settings options that you can expect to find in the 2.0 components. These settings offer flexible solutions and options for you to best deliver content to users.

Components

There are a variety of new components in USD 2.0, all of which can be seen and tested on Camino, the USD 2.0 design system. These are the same components that you can select when editing in Cascade CMS, however Camino offers a "playground" to test component settings and layouts that would work best for your content. While these settings and layout options exist in Cascade, they are generally found in two locations when editing (more details below).

Settings in Cascade

When you open the edit window for a page in Cascade CMS, you can scroll down and find the various components that are being used (which includes some brief description fields to easier describe the content held within). Within each component, you will generally find two setting sections:

  • When you first open a component, you may see a "Display Settings" section which is meant for the available display and layout settings for the component as a whole. An example would be to change the display from a grid to a carousel.
  • When editing the actual content, you may see another "Settings" section that is more directly correlated to the component's options, such as changing the shape, color or theme of your card items within the component.

As a maintainer, you would have access to all of these settings and options in Cascade, while also having a testing area in Camino at your convenience. It can take some time getting used to the new options and settings available to you, so if you ever have questions or want some guidance on what options are available to you, please let us know via our online web request form and we are glad to assist.
