February Web Tip: Copying and Pasting from Word

One of the greatest challenges we see with new content on the website is poor formatting due to text being copied and pasted from Microsoft Word.

When text is copied and pasted from Microsoft Word into the Cascade Server CMS, code from behind the scenes is also brought over, leading to poorly formatted text in the way of font, color, or sizing. This happens because Microsoft assumes that you want the text to look the same in the new space as it did in the old one, which isn't the case with the USD website.

To get around this issue, you can do the following:

  1. Once your text is pasted into the editor, while your cursor is still in the editor window highlight all of the text using one of the following keyboard shortcuts:
    • PC Users: Ctrl + a
    • Mac Users: Cmd + a

  2. From the top editor menu, choose Format -> Clear Formatting

to clear word formatting, highlight all text in the editor, then choose format from the top menu, then choose clear formatting

Following this process will make updates more efficient so that your workflow is approved and your updates are posted as quickly as possible. If you have any questions please let us know via our online web request form.

Thank you,
