August Web Tip: Best Practices and Reminders
In preparation for the upcoming semester, here are a few friendly reminders and best practices as you begin to update your web pages.
External Links:
When using external links, it is important to use "https:" (instead of "http:") if at all possible. This is a best practice for web security. When adding an external link in Cascade, there is already a generic "https://" placeholder as a reminder. You may want to test your "https:" links to ensure there are no issues.
Workflows:
Workflows are approved throughout normal business hours - but if you have emergency content or need an expedited review, please submit a request via our online web request form. There is an advertised turnaround time of 1 business day, however we strive to review submissions as soon as possible.
Accessibility Reminders:
- Images – Images should have an appropriate "alt tag." Any text contained in the image must be placed in the alt (images that have embedded text should generally be avoided).
- Headings – Never use "heading 1." All page titles are automatically set as heading 1 by default. You must use headings in a sequential order (heading 1, followed by heading 2, etc.).
- Descriptive Link Text – Avoid using generic, or duplicate text for links. This is most frequently seen with the use of "click here."
For more information about accessibility, please view this accessibility documentation.
If you have any questions please let us know via our online web request form.
Thank you,
