July Web Tip: Using Links in Cascade

Over the past month, we have seen a higher volume of broken images and links within submitted edits and workflows. Below are some quick but important reminders on how to internally and externally link within Cascade CMS.

Important: Once workflows are approved, it is best practice to test and review the links on the live page.

Internal Documents/Images and Links (Internal Source URLs):

  • When using documents and images uploaded to Cascade, it is important to always link them as internal links. In case you rename, move or edit the document/image in the future - Cascade will automatically update them, if they are internal links.
  • The same goes for linking to pages within Cascade. If you are linking to pages on the university website, you will need to use internal links - otherwise your workflow will be sent back to you.
  • Here is internal link documentation if you would like more information.

External Images/Documents and Links (External Source URLs):

  • The external field is used for document, image and page URLs from other websites (including Catcher links). Important: please do not paste a Cascade URL into this field. It may appear correct in Cascade (in preview mode) - but it will not work on the live page. An example of a Cascade URL would be: "https://cms.sandiego.edu/entity/..."
  • Faculty biographies and specific MyPosting items are external links.
  • Here is external link documentation if you would like more information.
