October Web Tip: Cascade Preview Errors

In Cascade, there are a variety of errors that can appear in the preview window as the result of in-progress edits. The information below can help you address those errors so that you can continue editing before submitting into workflow or submitting a web request for troubleshooting.

Cascade Rendering Errors

Types of errors

  • A white, blank page with a grey spinning circle indicates there is a rendering issue with Cascade. This is usually the result of leaving a component blank or not selecting the mandatory settings. Reminder: it is much easier to remove the component outright instead of unselecting settings.

  • There are Cascade error messages that specifically say "Error" and in the first line of the message, there will typically be a quick explanation. This will give some insight into what is causing the error, such as the need to remove an "&" symbol in a title or the need to clean up a super long URL that was pasted in.
Example: "Error on line 376: The entity name must immediately follow the '&' in the entity reference."

  • In the header and footer areas, you may see a "Technical error, contact the web team to resolve" message. This occurs if the page loaded too fast or slow in relation to the components (caching issues can also cause this). It's more common to see this error in the Cascade preview versus the live site.

  • There is also a chance that you still have an existing draft for a page that you started in the 1.0 version of the site. Since the transition to 2.0 changes the site options, you may get presented a full-screen "configuration" error. Please submit a web request and we can delete that old draft for you.

When reviewing workflows during technical review, our team will help address any potential errors or collaborate with you regarding any necessary changes.
